If you ask the “right” people how to build your essential oil downline they will talk about screening prospects, buying mailing lists or lists of phone numbers, writing phone scripts, conference calls and stuff like that. If you want to do that then go right ahead. To me those things seem like a shot in the dark. Essential oils are so awesome that people will want to buy more and more! In my humble opinion it makes more sense to take your essential oils to where the people are and let them see and smell the product. Just like other successful people with products they sell.
Set up a “booth” at craft fairs, Christmas bazaars, or farmers market. Your booth doesn’t have to be fancy, a small table will do. If you are outside you should have an umbrella for your table, or a canopy. Set your products up and have plenty of brochures and catalogs. (By the way set testers within easy reach but keep your inventory out of reach, because people will open a sealed bottle to smell it then set it down and walk off.) Be sure to have a good reference book handy so when someone asks you to recommend an essential oil for their medical problem you can look it up in the book. That way you will be complying with FDA regulations.
Don’t forget to ask everybody that comes to your booth to sign-up on your mailing list. This is extremely important. Your mailing list is “life blood” to build your essential oil downline. Because they have met you once and know that you are a real person they will trust you. If they trust you they will buy from you. This is your “hot” list. Before the week is up either call, send a note, email or text them inviting them to a class to explain how to safely use essential oils. Then ask people in the class to host a class or a make-it-and-take-it party, and invite their friends.

It is at such a reasonable price you can buy many copies to give to your hostesses and new down line as a thank you gift. You can hold training classes and use the book as your guide. It is a relatively small book so you don’t over whelm people with too much information, but there is enough information for anyone that has never used essential oils before. There is no reference in the book to any specific aromatherapy company.
Another important part of building your essential oil downline, according to “them” is to write down your goals for your life and essential oil business. Writing down your goals for your business is called a business plan. It is always a good idea to write a business plan!
In other words, treat this as a business, not an exclusive social club. The point of most businesses is to sell a product or service. Sell essential oils. People can’t help but get hooked on them and will naturally want to make a little money… or a lot of money. Who doesn’t want to make money? Sell essential oils.
